Baylor Alumnus Cristin Vitek Hospitalized
I was talking to Baylor’s head coach Glenn Moore, and he told me about one of his players Cristin Vitek. Cristin is a 2005 alumnus pitcher for the Bears. She is seriously ill and has been hospitalized in her hometown of Katy, TX.
I thought I would share this letter from Coach Moore, In case you are not aware of this situation.
Tue/ Wed-
Cristin went to an emergency care clinic on Tuesday morning complaining of a sore throat. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and sent home with a prescription for an antibiotic. Later that day, she came down with a high fever and was not able to keep any food or liquid in her system. Her condition worsened, and she was taken to the emergency room at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy, Texas. Her blood pressure dropped, and her kidney function was failing. She was in septic shock. The concern escaladed and the family was called to the hospital.

Yesterday after my wife and I visited the family-

We just left the hospital in Katy. Cristin has good things and bad things going on today. The good thing is that the respirator has gone from 100% down to 40% with her needing it. They have not given her as much to sedate her so that she can start using her lungs more on her own. The doctors are impressed with her strength and know that because of her physical shape she has made it this far (and of course, prayer). I think the biggest concern right is finding out about the bacteria and figuring out how to treat it and finding something that will work for Cristin (she is allergic to penicillan). She will still have to deal with holding liquids down and eating on her own later.

Call from her dad, Carl:
The Bacteria is NOT intestinal but Strepptococcal type B. She is getting stronger and kidneys are functioning again. She woke and tried to communicate, they gave her a pencil and pad and was able to read her 3 words “Get Me Out”. Needless to say they were excited to see her coherent and still fighting. Carl made it clear she is still in very critical condition.

If anyone would like to send an e-greeting to Cristin here at the hospital,
please go to www.memorialhermann.org and then click on e-greeting on the
right side. That will open a form where you put her name, hospital and
room (ICU) , and write a note.
Our prayers are with the Vitek family
