What is the difference between a balanced bat and an endloaded bat?

How can you tell a difference?

Is one better power hitter?

The difference between a balanced bat and an end loaded bat is the weight distribution throughout.  A balanced bat has an even weight distribution throughout where the end loaded has a half ounce to a whole ounce at the end of the bat.

The difference in feel is in the swing weight.  Choosing balanced or end load is a personal preference.  So what ever you feel comfortable with is what you should swing.

End load will generate more power because of basic physics.  If you put more weight behind the ball the farther it will fly.  But you have to know how to swing an end load correctly for this to work.  End load can cause you to drop your shoulder and pop up if not swung correctly.

I prefer a more balanced bat.  What do you prefer?

I prefer a balanced bat. Sometimes when I swing with an endloaded bat I drop my shoudler and everything I hit pops straight up just like lbiff was saying.

Endloaded bats always feel heavier than they really are.

I remember when ASA made a bunch of bats illegal. I think it was back in 2005. They made approx. 15 bats illegal, and 14 of the 15 were end loaded bats.

If you sent the bats into the manufacturer they would correct them, and make them legal. They added a 3 ounce weight to the handle to make them legal. Basically all they did was balance the bats, and they were legal to use.

Putting 2 and 2 together I have to assume that end loaded bats hit the ball further than balanced bats.Cool

I agree with Gary.  I think the end loaded bats provide more "punch" to the hit.  HOWEVER, personally, I like the feel of a balanced bat when I swing.  A slight load – not so bad, but I really don't care for the feel of an end loaded bat.

But it's definitely a personal choice.
