Any thoughts?

Hide the ball vs 400+degree  back arm swing delivery style

Most men throw peel drops and Hide the ball!!!!

Most  elite women throw rollover drops and don't hide the ball???

why???

I threw both a peel drop and a rollover drop.

The difference in the delivery can be deceiveing on a rollover drop seeing that your throw many different pitches with the same grip.  I threw my rollover drop, my curve and my drop curve with the same grip. To change the pitch you change the way you deliver the ball with your body and your motion.  The difference is all in the spin of a pitch.

The peel drop has a top spin with the seams  horizontal to the ground, my rollover drop had a spiral spin.

It is very difficult for a batter to tell the difference between multiple kinds of spiral spins versus if you see a back spin thats a change up or a rise.  If you see a top spin that is a drop…kinda obvious.

Fastpitch softball is about making the other team use their heads, why dont we make them at the plate as well?

Have you seen the Hillhouse clinic videos on here yet. Very good stuff for all coaches and pitchers. It's on here and it is worth watching. I am an x pitcher and  have learned so much for teaching and  how to correct my  16 yr old dd's wrong ways. She hides the ball and throws a mean peel drop. We have lots to work on especially more speed and back spin. I have showed her any back  spin yet, that's coming soon, so she will have  a circle grip, back/ spin. by hitting her side to take off speed.

It is good to have multiple types of basically the same pitch, such as the peel drop, the rollover drop, a back spin change/drop.

They all do relatively the same thing but with different spin, or a speed change.  This keeps teams on their toes.

To address the second part of your question. Two reasons-they don't hide the ball because picking and patterning pitchers is a neglected part of female fp hitting education so the pitchers can get away with it and because there are a lot of ugly swings in female fp that don't make a pitcher pay when the hitter does know what is coming.
