What type of softballs do you use and why?

I know different balls perform different but which ones do better than others?

I like the Dudley thunder heat softballs with the high seams. They have a nice leather that is never to slick and the seams are so big you could find the right hand placement in a fraction of the time.

I also liked dudleys when I was playing.

However, now that I am coaching, the league we are invovled in dictate what softball we have to use.

I wonder how they pick which balls they use. Is it which manufacturer will give the best discount or by the quality of the ball?

Do they require you buy the balls from them or can you get them anywhere?

Back in the day, Dudley made the SB12LND. It  was real leather and hand sewn in Haiti. The letters were SB softball 12 inch LND league night day. The real thing. Balls weren't cheap until the dudley C12L. The C was for composite or man made material and the leauges wanted cheaper balls. ASA put its stamp on the SB12LND. after so C12Ls couldn't be used in ASA sactioned tournaments.

What balls of today are used and are they real leather?

What balls are stamped and approved by the ASA today?

I know that most all manufacturers who make softballs have one that is stamped by ASA.

–Wilson, Demarini, Dudly, Worth, Rawlings, Baden, and I'm sure plenty more.

Most of the catalogs I've seen offer a leather and a synthetic ball. With most things made over seas maybe they found a way to produce high quality leather balls at lower costs.
