Fastpitch Magazine Issue 4

Issue 4 of The Fastpitch Magazine Published By Gary Leland

We are thrilled to add a new writer to Fastpitch Magazine. Stacie Mahoe joins us and shares with us an important parenting lesson she learned when her daughter showed no motivation to excel at softball. In this month’s “Bridging the Gap” Aaron Weintraub asks “Is Too Much Confidence Possible?” Aaron talks about how easy it is for players performing at a peak thinking they can do no wrong but when you are on top of your game, you don’t want to take anything for granted.

Rob Crews joins us again this month for SWAG 101, in part three of his 21st century hitting model, Rob talks about “The Kinematic Sequence”. This is the necessary process for executing the proper sequence, rhythm, and speed of body movements for maximum efficiency of transfer of energy and power. Charity Butler teaches how to maximize power at the plate. She breaks gives the proper technique to load in the box and explode at contact.

How much work does your catcher get at tagging runners? Our Fastpitch Drill of the Month teaches a tag play drill for catchers which works to improve the catcher’s handling of short hops at the plate.

Most players perform different during practice versus a game. A player that is composed and performs at what seems to be peak performance during practice can perform like a novice during a game without proper mental preparation. Jennie Ritter answers a subscriber’s question about how to mentally prepare for a big game. We get a look into the softball beginning of two great fastpitch softball players, two-time Olympic champion Michele Smith and Natasha Watley. As well as what motivated them and how they prepared themselves for a big game.

Team rivalries can get heated to say the least, Bill Plummer discusses how a “win at all cost” attitude can lead to an athlete’s downfall.

One of the hardest things to do in all sports is hit a round ball that is traveling at a high rate of speed and changing its direction with a round bat. Dalton Ruer takes hitting up a notch by explaining the art of slapping. Gift giving season is upon us so we thought it would be a good idea to find out what the top gifts would be for your softball players. Mitch Alexander gives us the top 10 holiday gift ideas.

Our question of the month is “Is a player better off on a weaker team where they get lots of playing time, or on a better team where they get a lot less playing time?” Matt Meinrod explains why supplements can be just as helpful to women without the fear of “bulking up”. If you are looking to take your game to the next level, then Coach Marc Dagenais gives a workout that will give you abs of steel that will lend themselves to a player’s explosive strength and rotational power.
