What Is The Pitch Speed Of An Average College Pitcher?
by Dr. Sherry Werner Ph’D

Produced By Gary Leland

In this episode of the Fastpitch Softball Chat Show, Dr. Sherry Werner answers this weeks question from pitcher’s involving college fastball pitch speed.

Dr. Werner says when looking at their database of 50+ collegiate level pitchers they train, from NAIA up to Division 1, they have found an average speed of 58-62 mph. And the range of their data goes from 54-72 mph for average fastpitch pitch speed.

Keep in mind at the collegiate level not everyone is going to reach the 60+ mph threshold. Sherry relates this threshold to that of baseball pitcher's and the 90 mph fastball.

Based on science these are the averages Sherry has found in regards to fastpitch softball windmill pitchers.
